Business highlights the economics of technology

May 6, 2009

The economics of late has forced many companies to re-evaluate how they do things and why. One Grande Prairie company has responded to this trend and has provided a solution for many companies attempting to make the bottom-line work.

“With anything relative to technology, there’s always ways to improve and save money,” says Troy Thibert, Business Solutions Advisor with Alberta Computers. “In an area like I.T., for example, many companies struggle with the relatively large bill that I.T. can run a business every month; yet, it’s a service that is essential to keep the business going.”

Thibert points to a statistic where a large majority of businesses would go broke if their I.T. was down for a period of even three to five days, simply because they rely so heavily upon the electronic information flow within their organization as it pertains to both customer information and internal work. If a server were to crash, for example, Thibert says many businesses are unprepared to deal with the fallout from that.

“In some ways, people become too comfortable and take their technology for granted, not taking the proper steps to ensure that they have a plan to continue to operate in the event that something like a network failure occurs, and it will eventually.” Thibert likens the technology within a business to an automobile in that it can’t run forever without eventually having some problems.

To combat the issue of network disaster, Alberta Computers has developed a system whereby the company works with customers on their technology infrastructure to ensure that the client can not only still operate in the event of a breakdown, but even help the business to save some money along the way.

“It’s a relatively unique way of doing things that can actually benefit our clients not only on securing them from disaster by helping them manage their I.T., but also assist in the business gaining financial ground by eliminating some waste in their monthly I.T. costs.”

To that end, Alberta Computers is sponsoring a breakfast session on Wednesday, May 13 at the Best Western Hotel in Grande Prairie, intended to provide very specific information to local businesses who perhaps struggle with their I.T. department.

“Even businesses that think they have their I.T. figured out I think will be very surprised at some of the lost savings that go unnoticed and unchecked,” remarks Thibert.

For information on the session, which kicks off a 7:30 a.m. on May 13, interested parties can contact Alberta Computers to register, or go to their website. The session is free to all guests.
